All wide roads in Fort Collins remind people of one man, and that is, Franklin Avery. He was the man behind plenitude of developments and establishments in the city. The credit of the foundation of First National Bank goes to Franklin Avery. He was the man behind the development of northern Colorado and he achieved it through the extensive use of agriculture. He, together with his wife Sara, laid the foundation of their home at the corner of Mountain Avenue and Meldrum Street in 1879. Originally, this two-storied house was marked with the entry area, a basement, three bedroom upstairs, two rooms on first floor, and a dining room. This house was belonged to Avery family until 1962. Later on, Poudre Landmarks Foundation, Inc., together with the City of Fort Collins, purchased Avery House in 1974 and took the onus of upkeeping and restoring the house. A visit to Avery House will transport you to the time when Franklin Avery was a reality, and you will cherish this feeling.
